LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® (LSP) is a facilitation methodology created by the LEGO Group in the mid-1990s. The idea was conceived by Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, the then CEO of LEGO, who wanted to unlock the creative potential of his employees and improve strategic planning processes. The methodology was developed in collaboration with Johan Roos and Bart Victor, professors at the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Switzerland.

The initial concept was to use LEGO bricks as a tool for business problem-solving and innovation. The tactile nature of the bricks allowed participants to build models that represented their ideas and thoughts, making abstract concepts more tangible and easier to discuss. This hands-on approach encouraged deeper engagement and more meaningful conversations.

In 2002, LEGO Serious Play was officially launched as a product and made available to organisations worldwide. It quickly gained popularity in various sectors, including business, education, and community development. The methodology has been used for team building, strategic planning, and fostering creativity and innovation.

Over the years, LSP has evolved and expanded, with certified facilitators now offering workshops globally. Its success lies in its ability to break down hierarchical barriers, promote collaboration, and unlock the creative potential of individuals and teams.
